"Sarah Treadwell: Connecticut Mom, American Patriot" honors a local woman who supported her family’s active role during the American Revolution, highlighting the often-overlooked contributions of women during the period.
Step into the life of Sarah Treadwell, whose courage and resilience illuminate the deeply personal realities of the American Revolution. Sarah and her family lived in North Fairfield, a section of Fairfield that would later become Weston and then Easton. Through hardship and perseverance, Sarah’s story reflects the strength of women who sustained families and communities during America’s founding. Explores Sarah's life during and after the Revolutionary War, her family and community roles, the pension process for veterans and widows of veterans, and her resilience as a wife and mother.
“Sarah Treadwell: Connecticut Mom, American Patriot” is funded in part by a grant from CT Humanities and is in recognition of America’s 250th. This exhibit is curated by Mark Brennan, with research assistance from the Historical Society of Easton.
