Volunteers are an integral part of preserving our heritage and the spirit of the community.
Why it matters
The contributions made by our volunteers enhance educational, cultural, and social events, which help preserve and encourage an insight into our history.
Every open house, every restored room, every school visit that goes well — those all run on volunteer hours. The Center is a small, independent nonprofit with no town funding, which means the people who show up to lead a tour, staff an event, or help catalog the archive aren't filling in around paid staff — they are how most of it gets done.
What volunteering actually looks like here
Some of it is visible: Trustees, the Director, and volunteers lead hands-on learning stations for visiting 3rd-grade classes, teaching kids about Weston's agricultural history and what life was like for the Coley family in the 1940s.
Some of it is behind the scenes: the Center's entire Board of Trustees — the people setting its direction — serves without pay, and a dedicated three-person Archive Team works on cataloging and preserving the collection.
Beyond those two examples, exactly what roles are open (docent, event staffing, archive help, school-program support, and more) isn't a fixed menu — the honest ask is a conversation about what fits, not a checklist.
How to get involved
Tell us a little about yourself and how you'd like to help, and we'll follow up. Or contact us directly: info@westoncthistory.org or 203-226-1804.
You don't need a history degree.
Just a few hours and some curiosity about the town you live in.
