Stand Up For Justice - Japanese American Concentration Camps from a Surviving Child’s Perspective

“Stand Up For Justice” honors Joy DeJaeger’s mother, who is currently 95 years old, and was placed in an American Concentration Camp from age 11 – 14 during World War II. The lecture demonstrates the unique challenges faced by Japanese Americans during the second World War and explores positive, peaceful and intelligent action when standing up for justice.

Ms. DeJaeger incorporates her talent as a classical pianist with live musical accompaniment during her presentation. A Q & A will conclude the lecture.

About the presenter: Joy Yayoi Futaba DeJaeger is a licensed physical therapist and owner of Harmony Physical Therapy. She earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at California State University Long Beach and is an associate professor for the program. Her scientific article, “Prosthetics and the Veteran” was published in the APTA Journal of Medicine. She is co-founder of the non-profit International MOMS Club, founder of Chibi Japanese language program for preschool and middle school students in Norwalk, CT. Ms. DeJaeger is a classical pianist and instructor, has a black belt in kickboxing and is the founder of “All Voices Matter” Band.

This presentation is part of a World War II Lecture Series organized by the Weston History & Culture Center.
